John 8:1 Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
John 8:2 Early the next morning Jesus came back to the temple. The people all came to him, and he sat and taught them.
John 8:3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery to Jesus. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees made the woman stand in the center of the court,
John 8:6 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees were saying this to trick Jesus. They wanted to catch him saying something wrong so that they could have a charge against him. But Jesus ignored them and stooped down and started writing on the ground with his finger
John 8:7 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees asked Jesus again what He thought they must do. Then Jesus stood up and He said to them: ‘If there is any one of you who has never done anything wrong, he can throw the first stone at her
John 8:8 Jesus bowed down and wrote on the ground again.
John 8:10 Jesus stood up and He asked her: where did they all go? Did no one judge you guilty?
John 8:11She said: No, Lord, there is no one. Jesus said to her: I will also not judge you. You may go, but you must not sin again.
John 8:12 Jesus started to teach the people again. Jesus said: I am the light for the people of the world. Any person who follows Me will not walk in the dark. He will have the light that brings life.
John 8:13 The Pharisees said to Jesus: When you talk about yourself, you are the only one to say that these things are true. So, we cannot accept what you say.
John 8:14 Jesus said to them: ‘Yes, I talk about Myself but what I say about Myself is true, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you don’t know where I came from or where I am going.
John 8:15 You look at the outside of people and then you judge people. I don’t judge anyone.
John 8:16 But if I judge people, my judging is true, because when I judge I am not alone. The Father who sent me is with me.
John 8:17 Jesus said, In your laws it is written that when 2 people say the same about someone, it is true.
John 8:18 And there are 2 who say the same things about Me. Both I and the Father who has sent Me to the world say the same things.’
John 8:19 The Pharisees asked Jesus: ‘Where is your Father?’ Jesus said: ‘You don’t know Me and you don’t know my Father. But if you knew me, you would know my Father too
John 8:20 Jesus said all these things in the temple. He was standing near the offering-box where He was teaching people. No one tried to arrest Him because it was not the right time for that to happen.
John 8:21 Jesus talked to The Pharisees again. Jesus said: I will leave you. You will look for me, but you will die in your sin. You cannot come where I am going.”
John 8:22 The Pharisees said: Jesus says we can not go where He is going. Is Jesus going to kill Himself? Is that why he said, You cannot come where I am going?
John 8:23 Jesus said to The Pharisees: You come from the world, but I come from heaven. Yes, you are people of this world, but I am not from this world.
John 8:24 Jesus said, I told you that you would die in your sins. Yes, if you don’t believe that I Am, you will die in your sins.
John 8:25 The Pharisees asked Jesus: Who are You? Jesus said to The Pharisees: I have told you who I am from the beginning, and that is who I am.
John 8:26 Jesus said, I have much more I could say to judge you. But I tell people only what I have heard from the one who sent me, and he speaks the truth.
John 8:27 The Jews did not understand that Jesus talked about the Father in heaven.
John 8:28 Jesus said to The Pharisees: You will lift up the Son of Man on the cross. Then you will know that I Am. You will know that whatever I do is not by my own authority. You will know that I say only what the Father has taught me.
John 8:29 The Father who has sent Me to the world will not leave Me alone. The Father is always with Me, because I always do the things that please the Father.
John 8:30 While Jesus was saying these things, a lot of people started to believe in Him.
John 8:31Jesus said to the Jews leaders who believed in Him: If you believe in Me and you do what I say, then you really are my disciples.
John 8:32Then you must know the truth and the truth will set you free.
John 8:33 The Pharisees said to Jesus: We are the family of Abraham. We have never been slaves. We are free. Why do You say we will become free?
John 8:34 Jesus said to them: I tell you this and it is sure: If a person sins, then he is a slave to sin.
John 8:35A slave does not always stay with the family, but a son always stays in the family.
John 8:36 If I, the Son, set you free, then you will really be free.
John 8:37 I know you are the descendants of Abraham, but you want to kill Me because you do not want to believe what I say.
John 8:38 I tell you what my Father has shown Me. You do what your father has shown you.
John 8:39 The Jews said to Jesus: Abraham is our father. Jesus said to them: If you are sons of Abraham, then you will do what Abraham did
John 8:40 But now you want to kill Me because I tell the truth that God has told Me. Abraham did not do anything like that
John 8:41 You are doing what your own father did. The Jews said to Jesus: We are not like children who never knew who their father was. God is our Father. He is the only Father we have
John 8:42 Jesus said to the Jews: God is not your Father because you do not love Me. I came from God, and I am here with you. I did not decide to come. No, it was God who sent Me to the world
John 8:43 Why don’t you understand what I am telling you? It is because you do not really want to listen to what I am saying.
John 8:44 Your father is the devil. You belong to him. You want to do what he wants. He was a murderer from the beginning. He was always against the truth. There is no truth in him. He is like the lies he tells. Yes, the devil is a liar. He is the father of lies.
John 8:45 I am telling you the truth, and you don’t believe me
John 8:46 Not one of you can show that I have sinned or done something wrong. Why don’t you believe Me when I tell the truth?
John 8:47Anyone who belongs to God listens to what God says. But you do not listen to what God says because you do not belong to Him.
John 8:48 The Jews said to Jesus: We were right when we said that You are a Samaritan and that You have a demon in You that makes You speak like this.
John 8:49 Jesus said: No, there is not a demon in Me. I honour my Father, but you don’t honour Me.
John 8:50 I am not trying to get honor for myself. There is one who wants this honor for me. He is the judge.
John 8:51 I tell you the truth, whoever continues to obey my teaching will never die
John 8:52 Then the Jews said to Jesus: Now we know that there is a demon in You who makes You say this. Abraham has died and the prophets have died. But now You say if someone does what You say, he will not die forever.
John 8:53 Jesus? Do you think you are greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?
John 8:54 Jesus answered, If I give honor to myself, that honor is worth nothing. The one who gives me honor is my Father. And you say that he is your God
John 8:55 But you do not know the Father. I know Him. If I say I do not know the Father, then I do not speak the truth, and then I will be like you. No, I know the Father and I do what He says
John 8:56 Your father Abraham was very happy that he would see the day when I came. Abraham saw that day and was happy.
John 8:57 The Jews said to Jesus, “What? How can you say you have seen Abraham? You are young. You are not even 50 years old!
John 8:58 Jesus said to them: ‘I tell you this and it is true: I am God. I was alive even before Abraham lived.
John 8:59 When Jesus said this, the Jewish leaders picked up stones to throw at Jesus. But Jesus hid, and then Jesus left the Temple area.
