John Chapter 4

John 4:1 Jesus knew that the Pharisees had heard the report that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John.

John 4:2 It was not Jesus who baptized the people. It was Jesus disciples who baptized.

John 4:3 Then Jesus left the land of Judea and He went back to Galilee.

John 4:4 On the way to Galilee, Jesus had to go through the country of Samaria.

John 4:5 In Samaria Jesus came to the town called Sychar. Sychar was near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

John 4: 6 Jacob’s water well was there. Jesus was tired from his long trip, so he sat down on the well edge. It was about noon time.

John 4:7 A woman from Samaria came to get water and Jesus asked her: Give me some water to drink.

John 4:8 Jesus was alone because his disciples had gone into the town to buy food.

John 4:9 The Samaritan woman said to Jesus: You are a Jew and I am a woman of Samaria. Why do You ask me for a drink of water? She said the Jews have nothing to do with Samaritans

John 4:10 Jesus said to the Samaritan woman: If you knew about God’s gift of eternal life, and who it is who says, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him to give you to drink, and He would have given you living water of eternal life.

John 4:11 The Samaritan woman said, Sir, where will you get that living water? The well is very deep, and you have nothing to get water with.

John 4:12 You are better than our grandfather Jacob. Jacob and his sons and his animals drank the water then he gave this water-well to us.

John 4:13 Jesus said to her: Anyone who drinks the water from this water-well will become thirsty again.

John 4:14 But when someone drinks the water that I give him, he will never be thirsty again. The water 0that I give will be like a fountain inside of him that gives eternal life.

John 4:15 The Samaritan woman said to Jesus: Sir, give me some of that water. Then I will not become thirsty again and I will not have to come here again to get water.

John 4:16 Jesus said to the Samaritan woman: Go and call your husband and come back here.

John 4 17 The Samaritan woman said to Jesus: I do not have a husband. And Jesus said: You are right to say you have no husband when you said I do not have a husband.

John 4:18 That because, you have had 5 husbands and the man you live with now is not your husband. You speak the truth.

John 4:19 The Samaritan woman said to Jesus: Sir, I see you are a prophet.

John 4:20 Our grandfathers worshipped God on this mountain, but you Jews say Jerusalem is the right place where we must worship God.

John 4:21 Jesus said to the Samaritan woman: Woman, believe Me, there will come a time when people worship the Father, but not on this mountain or in Jerusalem.

John 4:22 You Samaritans worship God, but you do not know Him. We Jews know God because he is the Saviour of the Jews.

John 4:23 I said there will come a time and that time is here now. When the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. And these are the kind of people the Father wants to be his worshipers.

John 4:24 God is spirit. So the people who worship him must worship in spirit and truth

John 4:25The Samaritan woman said: I know the Messiah will come. He is the Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.

John 4:26 Jesus said to the Samaritan Woman: I am that One, the Messiah, and I am speaking to you now.

John 4:27 Jesus’ disciples came back. They saw Jesus talking to the Samaritan woman and they were surprised. But not one of them asked Jesus what He wanted from her or why He was talking to her?

John 4:28 The Samaritan woman put down her water pot and left it there and she went into the town. She called the people and said:

John 4:29 You must come and see. There is a Man who told me everything that I have done. I think maybe He is the Christ.

John 4:30 The people of the town went to where Jesus was.

John 4:31 While the woman was in town, Jesus’ followers were begging him, Teacher, eat something.

John 4:32 But Jesus said to them: I have food to eat, but you do not know that kind of food.

John 4:33 The disciples asked each other: Did someone bring Him some food?

John 4:34 Jesus said, My food is to do what the Father has sent me to do, and to finish the work that my father has told me to do.

John 4:35 When you plant, you always say, Four more months to wait before we gather the grain. But I tell you, open your eyes, and look at the fields. They are ready for harvesting now

John 4:36 The people who gather the wheat will get paid.  They are gathering crops for eternal life. The people who sow and the people who gather the wheat will be happy together.

John 4:37 It is true what people say: One person sows the wheat and another person comes and gathers it.

John 4:38 I sent you to gather a crop that you did not work for. Others did the work, and you will get the profit from their work.

John 4:39 Many of the Samaritans in that town believe in Jesus because the Samaritan woman told them that Jesus had told her everything she had done.

John 4:40 Then the Samaritans came to Jesus and they asked Him to stay with them, so Jesus stayed there for 2 more days.

John 4:41 Many more Samaritans believe in Jesus when they heard the things He said.

John 4:42 The people of the town said to the Samaritan woman: We first believed because you told us about Jesus. But now we have listened to Him ourselves. Now we know that He is the Saviour of the world.

John 4:43 2 days later Jesus left and went to Galilee.

John 4:44 Jesus said: Other people listen to a prophet, but his own people do not think he is important.

John 4:45 When Jesus arrived in Galilee, the people of Galilee welcomed him. The people of Galilee had been at the Passover festival in Jerusalem and had seen everything Jesus did there.

John 4:46 Jesus went back to the town of Cana in Galilee. This is where Jesus had changed water into wine. There was an official whose son was ill in the town of Capernaum.

John 4:47 The people told the officer that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee. The officer went to Jesus and begged Jesus to come to Capernaum to heal his son because his son was very sick and soon will die.

John 4:48 Jesus said to the officer: You always want to see signs and miracles. If you do not see signs and miracles, you will not believe.

John 4:49 The officer said to Jesus: Please come to my child quickly before he dies.

John 4:50 Jesus said to him: You may go home. Your son will not die. The officer believed what Jesus said to him and he went home.

John 4:51 As the officer went home, his servants came to him. They told him that his child was well.

John 4:52 The officer asked his servants what time the child had got better and they said: Yesterday afternoon at the 7th hour (one o’clock) the fever was gone.

John 4:53 The father then remembered that it was at that time when Jesus said to him: Your son will not die. The officer and his family then believe in Jesus.

John 4:54 This was the 2nd miracle that Jesus did in the town of Cana after He went from Judea to Galilee
