John Chapter 21

John 21:1 Later, Jesus appeared again to his disciples at the Lake of Tiberias. This is how it happened:

John 21:2 There were some of the disciples together. Simon Peter, Thomas (called Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the two sons of Zebedee, and two other followers.

John 21:3 Simon Peter said to the Disciples: I am going fish. Then the disciples with him said to him:  We will go with you.  Right then they got into the boat and they went fishing.  They fished all night and caught no fish.

John 21:4 The next morning, very early, Jesus was standing on the beach but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.

John 21:5 Jesus said to them: Children, did you catch any fish? They said to Him: No

John 21:6 Jesus said to them: You must throw your fishing net out on the right-hand side of the boat, then you will catch fish.  They threw the fishing net into the water on the right-hand side and there were so many fish in the net that they could not pull the net into the boat.

John 21:7 The disciple that Jesus loved very much said to Peter: That is the Lord. When Simon-Peter heard that it was the Lord, he wrapped his coat around himself (because he did not have on all his clothes). Peter jumped into the water and went to Jesus.

John 21:8 The other disciples came in the boat and they pulled the fishing net that was full of fish behind them. They were not far from the beach, about 200 cubits.

John 21:9 When the disciples in the boat came to the beach, they saw the burning coals of a fire and fish and bread on the coals.

John 21:10 Jesus said to them: Bring some of the fish that you have caught.

John 21:11 Simon-Peter climbed into the boat and he pulled the fishing net onto the beach. The net was full of big fish. There were 153 fish in the net, but the net did not tear.

John 21:12 Jesus said to them: Come and eat breakfast.  The disciples did not ask g the fish.

John 21:14 This was the 3rd time that Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from death.

John 21:15 When the disciples had finished eating breakfast, Jesus said to Simon-Peter: Simon, son of Jonas, do you love Me more than these others do (with total commitment and devotion?)  Peter said: Yes, Lord, You know that I love You. [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend] Jesus said to Peter: feed the littlest of my people.

John 21:16 Jesus asked him the 2nd time: Simon, son of Jonas, do you love Me with total commitment and devotion? Peter said to Him: ‘Yes, Lord, You know that I love You with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend. Jesus said to Peter: Then you must be a shepherd to my people.

John 21:17 Jesus asked Peter the 3rd time: Simon, son of Jonas, do you love Me with a deep, personal affection for Me, as for a close friend? Peter was sad because Jesus had asked him 3 times if he loved Him. He said to Jesus: Lord, You know everything. You know that I love you with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend. Jesus said to Peter: Then you must take care of my people.

John 21:18 Peter, I tell you this and it is sure: When you were young, you dressed yourself and walked where you wanted to go.  But when you are old, you will hold out your hands and someone else will dress you. Then they will take you where you do not want to go.

John 21:19 When Jesus said this, He told Peter how he, Peter, would die and how he would honour God. Then Jesus said to Peter: Come with Me.

John 21:20 Peter looked back and he saw that the disciple that Jesus loved very much was following them. It was the same disciple who had sat next to Jesus when they were eating and who had asked Jesus:  Lord, who is the one who will betray You?

John 21:21 When Peter saw the disciple that Jesus loved very much, he said to Jesus: Lord, what will happen to him?

John 21:22 Jesus said to Peter: If I want him to live until I come, you don’t have to worry about that. I told you to follow Me.

John 21:23 The disciples thought that this disciple that Jesus loved very much would never die. But they were wrong. Jesus did not say that this disciple would not die. Jesus said to Peter: If I want him to live until I come, you don’t have to worry about that.

John 21:24 The disciple that Jesus loved very much was the disciple who told all of this and who wrote it all in this book. We know that he told the truth.

John 21:25  Jesus did a lot of other things, but you do not read about them all in this book. If people wanted to write all of those things, then I don’t think there would be enough place in the world for all those books.
