Ruth Chapter 4

Ruth 4:1 Boaz went to the place where people gather near the city gates. He sat there until the close relative he had told Ruth about passed by. Boaz called to him, Come and sit here, and the close relative came and sat with Boaz.

Ruth 4:2 Boaz called also gathered ten of the elders of the city and Boaz said to them: Come and sit here with us. Then the 10 elders came and sat down with them.

Ruth 4:3 Then Boaz said to Naomi’s close relative: Naomi has come back from the land of Moab. She decided to sell the field of our brother, Elimelek, who has died.

Ruth 4:4 I thought that you must know about this. Now I ask you, in front of these 10 elders and before these people: If you want to buy it, then you can buy it. But if you do not want to buy the field, then you must tell me, and I will buy it.  Naomi’s closest relative said, I will buy the land from her.

Ruth 4:5 Then Boaz said: You must remember that if you buy the field from Naomi, you also acquire the dead man’s wife, Ruth, the Moabite woman. the widow of the deceased.  She will have a child who will carry on her husband’s name and keep the land in the family.

Ruth 4:6 When Boaz said this, The close relative answered: No, then I can not buy the field, If I do, I might destroy my own inheritance. So I cannot do it. You can buy the field yourself. I can not buy it.

Ruth 4:7 During that time in Israel, it was the custom in Israel for anyone transferring a right of purchase one person took off a sandal and gave it to the other person. This was like signing an agreement, and the people were witness.

Ruth 4:8 The close relative said to Boaz: You can buy the field and he took off his shoe and he gave it to Boaz.

Ruth 4:9 Boaz said to all the elders and to the people:  You can all see today that I will buy the field from Naomi. I will buy the field that belonged to Elimelek and to Kilion and Mahlon, his 2 sons.

Ruth 4:10 I will also marry Ruth, the woman from the land of Moab. She was the wife of Mahlon and if she has a baby boy, he will inherit this field and the name of his family will not die, but it will go on. Today you are the witnesses.

Ruth 4:11 All the elders and the people who were near the city gates said, We are witnesses to all of this. And may the Lord bless this woman who is coming into your home to be like Rachel and Leah. They are the ones who had many children to make the people of Israel strong. And may you become powerful in the tribe of Ephrathah and famous in Bethlehem!

Ruth 4:12 May the Lord bless you with many children through Ruth. May your family become great like the family of Perez, the son Tamar bore for Judah.

Ruth 4:13 Boaz married Ruth.  The Lord allowed Ruth to become with child, and she had a son.

Ruth 4:14 4 The women there said to Naomi, Praise the Lord who gave you this child. May he become famous in Israel.

Ruth 4:15 We pray that he will make you happy and that he will help you and take care of you when you are old. Ruth is his mother and she loves you and she is better than 7 sons.

Ruth 4:16 Naomi took the child in her bosom. She started to nurse him as his mom.

Ruth 4:17 The women who lived there said: Naomi has a son. The women said his name would be Obed. He was the father of Jesse, and Jesse was the father of King David.

Ruth 1:18 Here are the names of the family of Perez: Perez was the father of Hezron.

Ruth 1:19 Hezron was the father of Ram, and Ram was the father of Amminadab.

Ruth 1:20 Amminadab was the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon was the father of Salmon.

Ruth 1:21 Salmon was the father of Boaz, and Boaz was the father of Obed.

Ruth 1:22Obed was the father of Jesse, and Jesse was the father of David.
