Matthew 1:1 This is the family history of Jesus Christ. He came from the family of David, who was from the family of Abraham.
Matthew 1:2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac was the father of Jacob and Jacob was the father of Judas and his brothers.
Matthew 1:3 Judas was the father of Perez and Zera and their mother was Tamar. Perez was the father of Esrom and Esrom was the father of Abam.
Matthew 1:4 Aram was the father of Aminadab, Aminadab was the father of Naasson and Naasson was the father of Salmon.
Matthew 1:5 Salmon was the father of Boaz and Boaz’s mother was Rahab. Boaz was the father of Obed and Obed’s mother was Ruth. Obed was the father of Jesse,
Matthew 1:6 Jesse was the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon and Solomon’s mother was the wife of Uriah.
Matthew 1:7 Solomon was the father of Reboam, Reboam was the father of Abia and Abia was the father of Asa.
Matthew 1:8 Asa was the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat was the father of Joram and Joram was the father of Uzziah.
Matthew 1:9 Uzziah was the father of Joatham, Joatham was the father of Ahaz and Achaz was the father of Hezekiah.
Matthew 1:10 Hezekiah was the father of Manasses, Manasses was the father of Amon and Amon was the father of Josiah.
Matthew 1:11 Josiah was the father of Jechonias and his brothers. This was the time when the people of Judea were taken away to be slaves in the land of Babylon.
Matthew 1:12 After the people of Judea were slaves in Babylon, Jechonias became the father of Salathiel. Salathiel was the father of Zerubbabel,
Matthew 1:13 Zerubbabel was the father of Abiud, Abiud was the father of Eliakim and Eliakim was the father of Azor.
Matthew 1:14 Azor was the father of Sadoc, Sadoc was the father of Achim and Achim was the father of Eliud.
Matthew 1:15 Eliud was the father of Eleazar, Eleazar was the father of Matthan and Matthan was the father of Jacob.
Matthew 1:16 Jacob was the father of Joseph and Joseph was Mary’s husband. Mary was the mother of Jesus who was named the Christ.
Matthew 1:17 From Abraham to King David there were 14 generations. From King David to the time when the people of Judea became slaves in Babylon, there were 14 generations and from the time when they were slaves in Babylon to the time when Christ was born, there were 14 generations.
Matthew 1:18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ happened. His mother Mary was engaged to marry Joseph. But before they married, he learned that she was expecting a baby. (She was pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit.)
Matthew 1:19 Mary’s husband, Joseph, was a good man. He did not want to cause her public disgrace, so he planned to divorce her secretly.
Matthew 1:20 But after Joseph thought about this, an angel from the Lord came to him in a dream. The angel said, Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to accept Mary to be your wife. The baby inside her is from the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 1:21 She will have a Son and his name must be Jesus, because He will save his people from their sins.
Matthew 1:22 All these things happened as the prophet had said:
Matthew 1:23 The virgin will become pregnant, and she will have a son, and his name will be Emmanuel, Emmanuel means God is with us.
Matthew 1:24When Joseph woke up from his sleep, he did what the angel of the Lord had told him, and he married Mary.
Matthew 1:25 He did not have sex with her. He waited until after the Child was born. Joseph named the Baby Jesus.
