John Chapter 1

John 1:1 Before the world was created, the Word was there. The Word was with God, and the Word was God

John 1:2 2 The Word was with God in the beginning.

John 1:3 Everything was made through the Word, and nothing was made without the Word.

John 1:4 In the Word there was life, and the life was the light of men.

John 1:5 The light shines in the darkness and the dark cannot overcome the light.

John 1:6 There was a man named John, he was sent by God.

John 1:7 John came to tell people about the light, so that everyone who heard it could believe.

John 1:8 John was not the light, but God sent him to tell people that the light was coming.

John 1:9 The true light, The Word, was coming into the world. This is the true light that gives light to all people.

John 1: 10 The Word was already in the world. The world was made by the Word, but the world did not know him.

John 1:11 The Word came to his own people, but they did not accept Him.

John 1:12 Some people accept Him, and he gave them the right to become the children of God.  But only those people who believed in him.

John 1:13 They were born again and became God’s children. Not the way babies are born. It was not because of any human desire or plan. They were born from God himself.

John 1:14 The Word became a man and lived among us. We saw his greatness—the greatness that belongs to the only born Son of the Father. The Word was full of grace and truth.

John 1:15 John the Baptist told the people about the Word. John shouted and said: This is the Man that I told you about when I said: Someone will come after me, but He is more important than I am because He lived long before I was born.

John 1:16 Word was full of grace and truth, and from him we all received one blessing after another

John 1:17 God gave his laws to Moses and Moses gave them to us, but we received grace and truth from Jesus Christ.

John 1:18 No one has ever seen God. The only Son is the one who has shown us what God is like. Jesus himself is God and is very close to the Father

John 1:19 This was John’s testimony when the Jews sent a few priests and Levites from Jerusalem to John. They asked John: Who are you?

John 1:20 John wanted them to know so he told the truth. John told them: I am not the Christ.

John 1:21Then the priest asked John: Then who are you? Are you Elijah? John said:  No, I am not Elijah. They asked: Are you the Prophet?  John answered: No.

John 1:22 Then the priest asked John: Who are you? Tell us, and we will go and tell the people who sent us. What do you say about yourself?

John 1:23 John said: I am the man who shouts in the desert to prepare the way for the Lord.  This is what the prophet Isaiah said.

John 1:24 These Jews were sent from the Pharisees

John 1:25 They ask John: You say you are not the Christ or Elijah or the Prophet. Why then do you baptize people?

John 1:26 John answered them and said: I baptize people with water. But there is someone here with you that you don’t know.

John 1:27 This is the One I told you about: After me comes a man who is superior to me, because He lived long before I was born.  I am not good enough to take off his sandals.

John 1:28 These things all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan River. This is where John was baptizing people.

John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and John said: Look, there is the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.

John 1:30 This is the Man that I told you about when I said there is someone that comes after me who is superior to me, because He existed before me. He lived long before I was born.

John 1:31 I did not know who he was. But I came baptizing people with water so that Israel could know that He is the Messiah.

John 1:32 John said: I saw the Spirit come down from heaven like a dove and rest on Jesus.

John 1:33 Before this, I did not know who He was, but God sent me to baptize with water.   God told me: when you see the Spirit come down and stay on a Person, then you must know that He is the One who will baptize people with the Holy Spirit.

John 1:34 I have seen it and I tell you: This Man is the Son of God.

John 1:35 The next day John and 2 of his disciples were there again.

John1:36 John saw Jesus walking by and John said: Look, there is the Lamb of God.

John 1:37 The 2 disciples of John heard what Jesus said, then they started to follow Jesus.

John 1:38 Jesus looked back and He saw them following Him. Jesus asked John disciples: What do you want? Johns’ disciples answered, Rabbi, where do You stay? (A Rabbi is someone who teaches people how to serve God).

John 1:39 Jesus said to Johns’ disciples Come and you will see.  They went with Jesus and they saw the place where He stayed. Johns’ disciples stayed with Jesus all day.  It was about the 10th hour (4 o’clock in the afternoon)

John 1:40 These men who followed Jesus after they had heard about him from John. One of them was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter

John 1:41 The first thing Andrew did was to go and find his brother Simon. Andrew said to him, we have found the Messiah which means The Christ.

John 1:42 Then Andrew brought Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, you are Simon, the son of Jona. You will be called Cephas, which means a stone.

John 1:43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He saw Philip and said to him: Follow Me.

John 1:44 Philip lived in the town of Bethsaida, in the same town where Andrew and Peter lived.

John 1:45 Philip saw Nathanael and said to him: We have found the Man that Moses and the prophets wrote about. His name is Jesus. He is the son of Joseph, and He comes from the town of Nazareth.

John 1:46 Nathanael said to Philip, Nazareth! Can anything good come from Nazareth? Philip said come and see.

John 1:47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming, He said: This man is a true Israelite. He can be trust.

John 1:48 Nathanael asked Jesus: How do you know that? Do you know me? Jesus said to him: I saw you when you were under the fig tree before Philip told you about me.

John 1:49 Nathanael said to Jesus: Teacher, you are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel.

John 1:50 Jesus said to him: You believe in Me because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree, but you will see much more wonderful things than that.

John 1:51 Jesus also said: I tell you this and it is true: You will see heaven open and the angels of God going up to Him and coming down on Me, the Son of man.
