Psalms 5

1Listen to my words, LORD; consider my sighing.

2Hear the sound of my cry, my King and my God, because I pray to you.

3In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my prayer before you and wait expectantly.

4Because you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil cannot live with you.

5The arrogant cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong.

6You destroy those who tell lies; the LORD despises anyone who is bloodthirsty and deceitful.

7But I, because of your great mercy, will come into your house; I will bow down toward your holy temple in reverence for you.

8Lead me, LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.

9Because there is no truth in their mouths; their hearts are full of destruction; their throats are like an open grave, releasing decay; their tongues speak smooth flattery, but their hearts are rotten within.

10Declare them guilty, God; let their own plans be their downfall. Banish them because of their many sins, because they have rebelled against you.

11But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing for joy forever. Spread your protection over them, so that those who love your name may rejoice in you.

12Because you, LORD, bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor like a full-body shield.
