Old Testament

Psalms 4

Answer me when I call, God who declares me innocent! You have opened a wide space for me when I was closed in by trouble; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.

You people, how long will you turn my honor into shame? How long will you love empty things and chase after lies? Pause and think.

Know this: the LORD has set apart the faithful as the LORD's own; the LORD will hear when I call out.

Tremble and do not sin; think it over on your bed, and be silent. Pause and think.

Offer the right sacrifices, and put your trust in the LORD.

Many people say: Who will show us anything good? LORD, let the light of your face shine on us.

You have filled my heart with more joy than wealthy, worldly people feel, even when their grain and new wine overflow.

I will lie down and sleep in peace, because you alone, LORD, make me live in safety.
