Proverbs 12

1Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is foolish.

2A good person receives favor from the LORD, but the LORD condemns someone with wicked schemes.

3No one can be made secure through wickedness, but the root of the righteous cannot be moved.

4A worthy wife is a crown for her husband, but a shameful wife is like rot in his bones.

5The thoughts of the righteous are honest, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.

6The words of the wicked lie in wait to shed blood, but the mouth of an honest person is a rescue.

7The wicked are overthrown and are gone, but the house of the righteous stands firm.

8A wise person is praised, but a twisted mind is despised.

9Better to be a nobody with a servant than to act important and have no food.

10A righteous person cares for an animal's life, but even the kindest act of a wicked person is cruel.

11Whoever works the land will have plenty of food, but whoever chases worthless ideas has no sense.

12The wicked crave what evil people have gained, but the root of the righteous produces fruit.

13The wicked are trapped by their own sinful talk, but the righteous escape from trouble.

14A person is satisfied with good things from the words that person speaks, and the work of that person's hands is repaid to that person.

15The way of a fool seems right to that fool, but whoever listens to advice is wise.

16A fool's anger shows itself at once, but a sensible person overlooks an insult.

17Whoever speaks the truth reveals what is right, but a false witness reveals deceit.

18Reckless words cut like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

19Truthful lips last forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.

20Deceit fills the hearts of those who plan evil, but joy fills those who work for peace.

21No harm comes to the righteous, but the wicked are filled with trouble.

22The LORD hates lying lips, but the LORD delights in those who deal honestly.

23A sensible person keeps knowledge to themselves, but a fool's heart blurts out foolishness.

24Hard-working hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.

25Worry weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.

26A righteous person gives good direction to a neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads others astray.

27A lazy person does not even roast the game they caught, but a hard worker's possessions are valuable.

28In the way of righteousness there is life, and along that path there is no death.
