Old Testament
Psalms 45
Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.
You are better-looking than all the other men and you say beautiful things to other people. That is why God was good to you and blessed you forever.
Put on your sword. You are a strong leader, the great king.
Go out in your greatness to win the victory for what is true and right. Let us see the amazing things you can do with your powerful right arm.
Your arrows are sharp, and they will pierce the hearts of the enemies of the king. Nations will fall before you.
God has made you king forever, and you will rule your people fairly and righteously.
You love what is right and you hate anything that is wrong and sinful. That is why God, your God, has anointed you and given you more joy than He has given any other.
Your clothes smell like myrrh, aloe and cassia, thou art made glad by the sweet smell of thy garments out of those ivory palaces
Kings’ daughters are among your noble women. At your right side stands the queen, wearing jewelry of finest gold from Ophir!
Hear, O daughter, and take to heart what I say: forget your people and your father’s family,
Your beauty will make the king desire you; he is your Lord, so you must worship him.
A princess is beautiful when she comes in from her room. Her clothes are made of golden threads.
Clothed in beauty, she is led to the king, followed by her bridesmaids.
Your sons will become kings like their father. You will make them rulers over many lands.
You will be famous for generations. People will praise you forever and ever.
