Old Testament
Psalms 12
Help, LORD! Because godly people are gone; the faithful have disappeared from among humanity.
Everyone speaks lies to their neighbor; they speak with flattering lips and deceitful hearts.
May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every tongue that boasts,
Who say: With our tongues we will win; our lips are our own weapons — who can be our master?
Because of the oppression of the weak, because of the groaning of the needy, I will now rise up, says the LORD; I will place them in the safety they long for.
The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times.
You, LORD, will keep needy people safe; you will protect oppressed people from this evil generation forever.
The wicked strut around on every side, when what is vile is honored among people.
