Jonah 3:1 The Lord talked to Jonah the second time said:
Jonah 3:2 You must go to the big city of Nineveh. You must tell those people what I said to you.
Jonah 3:3 Jonah did what the Lord said, and he went to Nineveh. Nineveh was a very big city. If a person walked from one side of the city to the other side, he walked for 3 days.
Jonah 3:4 Jonah walked into the city for one day, and he told the people: After 40 days, Nineveh will be destroyed!
Jonah 3:5 The people of Nineveh believed God. They decided to stop eating for a time to think about their sins. They put on special clothes to show they were sorry. All the people in the city did this, from the most important to the least important
Jonah 3:6 The king of Nineveh heard what Jonah said. He got up from his throne, and he took off his beautiful royal clothes. He put on sackcloth, and he sat on the ash-heap.
Jonah 3:7 The king wrote a special message and sent it throughout the city: A command from the king and his great rulers: For a short time, no person or animal should eat anything. Nothing living in Nineveh will eat or drink water
Jonah 3:8 All the people must put on sackcloth. Their animals must also have on sackcloth. All the people must pray to God, and they must stop all the bad things and sins that they are doing.
Jonah 3:9 Maybe God will change his plan and feel sorry for us. Maybe He will stop being angry with us and not punish us, so we will not die.
Jonah 3:10 0 God saw what the people did. He saw that they stopped doing evil. So, God changed his mind and did not do what he planned. He did not punish the people.
