1 Peter 5

1Now I have a word for the elders among you. I am an elder too, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and I will also share in the glory that is going to be shown.

2Take care of God's flock that is under your care. Watch over them — not because you have to, but because you want to, as God wants. Do it not for dishonest money, but because you are eager to serve.

3Do not act like bosses over the people in your care. Instead, be examples to the flock.

4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of glory that will never fade.

5In the same way, you younger ones, follow the lead of those who are older. And all of you, treat one another with humility, because God is against the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

6So make yourselves low under God's mighty hand, and at the right time God will lift you up.

7Give all your worries to God, because God cares for you.

8Keep clear minds and stay alert. Your enemy the devil is on the move like a roaring lion, looking for someone to swallow up.

9Stand against him and stay strong in the faith. Remember that your brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kinds of suffering.

10And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself make you strong, firm, and steady after you have suffered for a little while.

11To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.

12With the help of Silas, whom I consider a faithful brother, I have written this short letter to encourage you and to tell you that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.

13The church in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings, and so does my son Mark.

14Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
