1 Corinthians 5

1People are talking about a terrible sin in your church. Even unbelievers would never do such a wicked thing! A man is sleeping with his own father's wife.

2And you are proud! Should you not rather be filled with grief and remove from your group the man who did this?

3Even though I am not there with you in body, I am with you in spirit. And I have already judged the man who did this, just as if I were there.

4Call a meeting of the church together. I will be with you in spirit. Our Lord Jesus will be present with His mighty power.

5At this meeting, throw that man out to Satan! Let his selfish human body suffer. We pray his spirit will be saved when the Lord returns.

6Your bragging is completely wrong! Just a tiny pinch of yeast spreads through the whole batch of dough.

7Throw out that old, rotten yeast! Then you can become fresh, clean bread. Christ, our holy Passover Lamb, was sacrificed for us.

8So stop living with the old yeast of wickedness and sin. Instead, feast on the pure bread of truth and honesty!

9I wrote to you in my letter not to keep company with people who are sexually immoral.

10I did not mean the people of this world who are immoral, or greedy, or cheaters, or who worship idols. If that were so, you would have to leave the world.

11Do not associate with anyone who claims to follow Christ but lives in sin. Stay away from a "believer" who commits sexual sin or is greedy. Stay away if they worship idols, insult people, get drunk, or cheat. Do not even sit down to eat a meal with someone like that!

12What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? But you are to judge those inside, are you not?

13God will judge those outside. So, as the Scripture says: Remove the evil person from among you.
